On my last trip to Paris, I decided to was time for a little change and move away from the Opera area I regularly stay at. Hotel Vernet is a recently renovated boutique hotel just off the Champs Elysees which seemed right up my alley.
At check in I was upgraded to a very spacious room overlooking rue Vernet. The interior design is a careful interpretation of modern design to match the classical building.
The bathroom struck the right tone between industrial chic and mid century design using wood and messing and warm hues. Nice selection of White Company toiletries.
There is a Murphy's law that insures I always have a cold when I stay further from the office than I have to, and unfortunately this hit me this time again. So for the first night it was hot shower, tea and room service sandwich - with Paris life happening just outside the door - sad jetsettista. However my sadness was mitigated when I found my favourite Marriage Freres teas in the room and the sandwich proved to be extremely fresh and tasty.
Breakfast was served in a beautiful atrium and continental breakfast was included in my rate, however this was probably the low of my stay at the Vernet. Nothing available in buffet style, you have to wait to be given the menu and end up somewhat at a loss when asked to point out which part of the continental breakfast you want - well, the breakfast part of the breakfast please. Loads of fuss around serving a glass of juice, I think less fuss and actually a freshly squeezed juice would be nicer. Cappuccino took a long time to arrive and was really not that great.
