A quick stop over in Milan in November - and I was trying to beat the autumn dullness by staying in a new hotel. The Mandarin Oriental is centrally located, in a quiet little side street just behind the Scala and about 600m from the Duomo.
Arriving is a real pleasure, you enter a gateway and a little world of luxury away from the hustle. The check in was professional and uber-polite, very much as expected from this brand.
I was upgraded to a very nice room overlooking an inner courtyard
Bedding was heavenly, which is not a given in Milan hotels in general and made me appreciate this a lot.
The bathroom was extremely spacious and the combined bath/shower cabin was a interesting idea which I will explore the next time in more detail, this time hopping under a quick shower was all I could bear after a late flight.
The choice of teas was commendable, I did enjoy the Jasmin tea not usually on offer in room. There was also a nespresso machine, which is great for a quick expresso early morning. However pricing of the minibar and room service was a bit over the top, even for 5 star hotels
