As regulars at the Pampelonne beach clubs, we decided to try out a new place this year and headed to Plage des Jumeaux which has been a household name on the beach for many years.
We were greeted very friendly by the plagiste and outside of high season, did not have any problems getting 2 mattresses in the first row. Service at the beach was a bit slower than in other places but perfectly fine and unobtrusive.
We had asked the plagiste to book us a table in the restaurant, we headed there for an early seating and were greeted by the Maitre d', a surly middle aged lady who put us at one of the worst available tables. I politely asked in French, which I speak perfectly, to be given another table to be told that none where available, no token attempt to place us at any other table was made despite the restaurant being 70% empty. From my vantage point I could enjoy this repeating itself with other couples arriving, and a pattern emerged, the younger and more attractive guests got the worst tables while older and overweight people who also did not have specific reservations where allowed to change to better tables. So, in the end our table was a hidden compliment. Quite entertaining to watch, actually, we started a 'where will they be seated' game and got high scores.
Food was very old school and executed without care, fish overcooked and green beans undercooked. I opted for a salad as I wanted a light lunch, but the 'main' portion at 32 Euro, which you are obliged to take when its your only plate, was anything but small, I received two mozzarella on half a sliced tomato.... I don’t expect us to be back anytime soon, there are much better options in the area.
